Tenth seed Shahar Peer cruised into the second round of the Australian Open with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mathilde Johansson (103) of France.

After losing the first game and nearly losing her serve in the second game, Peer dominated to win six straight games and take the first set in 34 minutes.

It took another 28 minutes to win the second set by the same margin.

Dudi Sela (92) lost in straight sets 6-7, 4-6, 4-6 in the first round against Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro.

The Israeli put up an admirable fight against the 2009 US Open Champion who has slipped to 259 in the world rankings after missing most of 2010 with a wrist injury.

In a thrilling first set Sela had five set points before succumbing 13-15 in the tie break. From then on Del Potro always had the edge in a game that lasted 2 hours 39 minutes.
