Shahar Peer has crashed out of Wimbledon.

Seeded 22, the Israeli won the first set 7-5 but after picking up a shoulder injury in the second, she had no answer to the power and precision of Ksenia Pervak, going down 6-4, 6-4 on Court 8 on the opening day.

The Israeli was inconsolable after the match. "I’m very disappointed," she said. "I'm not used to losing in the first round of back-to-back grand slams but I’m not playing well this year."

"I didn't underestimate my opponent. The problem was that I didn’t take my chances."

Peer slump has coincided with a change of form but believes that this result is no more than a blip.

"I'm trying to play more aggressively and am very happy with my coach, Harold Solomons.

"I'm trying to get better every day and hope to improve before the US Open. I’ll keep giving everything as I believe I can get into the top 10. I think I'm a good enough player."

Looking ahead to next year, when the tennis event at the London Olympics will be held at Wimbledon, she said: "To represent Israel would be awesome. I did it in Beijing but there is a long way to go."
