Peer crashes out in round three

articlemain

Shahar Peer tumbled out of the Australian Open at the third round stage, going down in three sets against 22nd seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy.

Seeded 10, Peer won the first set 6-3, but she failed to capitalise on a set-point in the second, eventually losing 6-7 (3-7), 4-6 in Melbourne.

Israeli participation at the event came to an early close after Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich, who won doubles title here in 2008, were knocked out in the second round.
