South Manchester Sports 1st booked their place in the National Round of the Peter Morrison Trophy following a titanic tussle against Glasgow Maccabi.

South, who have been flying in the Manchester Accountants League, edged out their opponents 2-1 thanks to goals from Adam Lavin and Ben Peppi.

Loz Newman and Mark Stewart’s side will join Haroldeans and Republic of Flixton in the last 16 of the competition with either Manchester Maccabi or FC Cosmos set to clinch the fourth northern qualifying spot.

Elsewhere, Manchester Maccabi 2nd moved to the top of the MJSL following a crushing 5-0 victory over Crumpsall 2nd.

With Republic of Flixton’s game against Leeds Students cancelled, Maccabi 2nd took advantage to leapfrog Stuart Delmonte and Tony Rosenberg’s side.

Ben Gould’s double and goals from Jake Kelly, Daniel Rubinstein and Yossi Brownson allowed Maccabi 2nd to move to 22 points from their 11 games.

Haroldeans strengthened their quest to retain the MJSL league title with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Oakhill.

Paul Harris and Adam Shiffman were on target for the Merseysiders, who are level on points with Maccabi 2nd and hold two games in hand.

FC Cosmos warmed up for next weekend’s Peter Morrison Trophy clash with Manchester Maccabi 1st by defeating Manchester Maccabi 3rd 3-2.

Andrew Shaffer hit a hat-trick for Cosmos with Jack Myers and Moishe Hasid replying for the visitors.

Crumpsall 1st recorded a 3-1 win over Broughton thanks to goals from Moishe Klyne, Raffy Klyne and Simon Lachs with Adam Lisberg grabbing a consolation.
