Republic of Flixton sent shockwaves through the Peter Morrison Trophy after stunning Leeds Maccabi 1st with a heroic 2-0 victory.

The MJSL league leaders booked their place in the last 16 of the national competition courtesy of strikes from Rob Jacobs and Adam Tauber.

Leeds, who play in the Sunday Alliance Premier Division, had been expected to see off Stuart Delmonte and Tony Rosenberg’s men.

But Republic produced an impressive showing, grabbing a half-time lead with a Jacobs cracker before Tauber headed home Jonny Alexander’s second half corner.

Republic are joined in the next round by Haroldeans, who cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Leeds Maccabi 2nd.

In the MJSL, Manchester Maccabi 2nd edged out Manchester Maccabi 3rd 4-2 in a pulsating derby clash.

Jake Kelly, Jake Berger, Max Rose and Daniel Rubinstein were on target for the 2nd team, who moved level on points with Haroldeans, Republic and South Manchester 2nd at the top of the table.

Adam Kaye and Moishe Hasid were on target for Maccabi 3rd.

South continued their blistering form with a 4-2 win at Crumpsall 1st thanks to Josh Klepper’s double and goals from Ed Jackson and Simon Davies. Simon Lachs scored twice for Crumpsall.

Benji Las was the hero for Oakhill as the Manchester students came from behind to defeat Broughton 2-1.

Ari Steinberger had given Broughton a surprise lead, before Las’ double did the trick for the Lions.

FC Cosmos crushed Crumpsall 2nd 6-1 with Andrew Shaffer the hero with a four-goal blast.

Dan Klapisch and Gab Silva were also on the scoresheet as Cosmos grabbed their second win of the season.

In the Tameside League Division Two, Manchester Maccabi recorded a 3-2 victory over Warwick FC.
