Manchester Maccabi picked up their fifth consecutive victory after cruising past British Protection in the Tameside League.

Alex Singer, Adam Stevens and Alex Lee were all on target for Maccabi, who have won every single game since their dramatic Peter Morrison Trophy defeat by South Manchester Sports Club.

And joint-manager Stuart Delmonte says he is thrilled with the way his boys have responded since the painful episode of the Morrison quarter-final.

“The defeat against South Manchester still hurts like a dagger through the heart for me,” said Delmonte.

“But since that game, we’ve changed the system and the boys look more comfortable and everybody knows their job.

“They’ve worked so hard, shown real character and have this real never-say-die attitude which has really helped.

“The lads are playing with confidence and at the end of the game against British Protection we were passing the ball around like Arsenal.”

Maccabi needed just five minutes to move ahead as Singer slalomed his way through the midfield before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the net from 20-yards.

Despite conceding an equaliser before the break, the home side continued to dominate and Adam Stevens fired home a spectacular second to give Maccabi the lead.

A solid Maccabi defensive performance and a couple of impressive saves by Dan Garman ensured the hosts continued to look comfortable.

And defender Lee wrapped up the win late on when his rasping effort left the British Protection goalkeeper with no chance.

“That’s five games on the trot which we’ve won now,” said Delmonte.

“We should have been three or four up at half-time, but myself and Tony Rosenberg gave the lads a half-time team talk and they really responded.

“British Protection couldn’t live with us and for the last five minutes or so I don’t think they even touched the ball.”

Maccabi are currently 11 points adrift of the league leaders, but have five games in hand going into the business end of the season.

Next week, Maccabi face Division Three side New Moston in the third round of the Brian Brockbank Cup with the winners qualifying for the quarter-finals.
