NJCL round-up

articlemain

The bowlers dominated proceedings in the NJCL at the weekend with both matches particularly low-scoring affairs.

In the top game between South Manchester Maccabi beat Leeds Maccabi by 7 wickets at Scholes Field.

South won the toss and put Leeds in to bat on a damp wicket and were immediately on top. Avrom Topperman bowled Leeds danger man Simon Williams with an unplayable in swinging delivery which removed his middle stump.

From then on the South bowlers continued to run through the Leeds batting with only Jonny Wineberg (20) putting up some resistance. Topperman finished with figures of 3 for 12 and Akiva Lieberman, generating real pace, also ripped through the batting to finish with remarkable figures of 3-8.

Leeds total of just 64 was never enough which showed when South took their turn at the crease.

Rabinovitz finished unbeaten on 21 as South reached their target with the loss of just 3 wickets. The only downside for South was what looked like a bad knee injury to Dan Lieberman who had to retire hurt on 19.

With the forthcoming representative fixtures, the league wishes him a speedy recovery.

The other match saw a depleted eight-man Bury & Whitefield dismissed for just seven. Daniel Paul (5-4) was the chief tormentor.

Bury took maximum points after cruising to a 10-wicket victory.
