New opponent for Salita

articlemain

Dmitriy Salita has a new opponent for this week's fight at New York's Roseland Ballroom after Mike Anchondo withdrew from their IBA welterweight title clash through illness.

Veteran James Wayka, a 32-year-old from Minnesota, has an unremarkable record of 16 wins from 26 fights and the status of the fight has not yet been resolved.

It was originally scheduled for eight rounds but the Salita camp are hoping the IBA will upgrade it to championship status so the he can still contest the organisation's vacant 147lb title.

Wayka, without a win from his last three fights, has not boxed since he was knocked out after 125 seconds of the opening round by unbeaten prospect Jesse Lubash in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in October 2009 - hardly the credentials for a so-called "world title" fight.
