National success for Abridge

articlemain

Abridge won the main prize at the National Club Championship at Dyrham Park Golf & Country Club.

The Essex club collected the Dyrham Park Trophy after finishing ahead of Moor Allerton with an impressive aggregate score.

The competition was open to all clubs and societies affiliated to the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies to enter teams of six low handicap golfers to compete for the Dyrham Park Trophy awarded to the team, with the best aggregate of two scores in the morning foursomes and four scores in the afternoon singles.

The best performance in the foursomes was produced by Marshall Newman and Mark Copeland of Moor Allerton with a gross 76, nett 71.

There were two outstanding returns in the singles competition, with Paul Davy of Potters Bar triumphing over Danny Hughes of Abridge. Both players shot 75 gross, 71 nett, but Davy took both the gross and nett prizes by virtue of better scores over the last six holes.

All the competitors agreed that the course was in magnificent condition and a credit to those who had overseen the upgrade whilst Dyrham’s traditional generous hospitality was enjoyed by all.

The day closed with the presentation dinner where all present were welcomed by the President of the Association, Dr Clive Leveson.
