National challenge

The National Scratch competition is being reinstated by the Association of Jewish Golf Clubs and Societies after a gap of six years.

The tournament, which will be hosted by Abridge Golf & Country Club on September 5, is open to all Jewish male golfers with a handicap of nine or less. The scratch competition will be determined by the lowest aggregate gross score of morning and afternoon rounds with additional prizes for second and third. In addition there will be prizes for the best net score in the afternoon round.

A spokesman for the Association said: "We are proactive in our desire to reach out to UK Jewish golf, and feel that an individual competition to determine the best Jewish golfer is attractive to those who have for many years participated in team events.

"It is hoped that there will be a strong turnout to ensure that the event becomes a major fixture in the Association's golfing calendar."

Entry fees are £70 and applications are open until August 22. Entry forms can be obtained from affiliated clubs.
