Team GB Under 18 Open Football Manager Joel Nathan has named an 18-man squad for the 19th Maccabiah Games in 2013.

Nathan, who led the junior squad to gold at the 2011 European Maccabi Games in Vienna, has opted to balance experience with those who will be appearing in their maiden tournament, after selecting 10 of the players who represented Team GB last year.

Assistant-manager Josh Gordon and coach Scott Shulton complete Nathan’s management team in the dug-out.

Speaking about the squad, Nathan said: "After a very thorough selection process, Josh, Scott and myself have picked a squad of 18 boys who we feel will be able to become the first youth/junior football squad to bring home a gold medal from Israel.

"Scott and I started this journey three years ago when we were asked to manage the under-16 team in Vienna with the goal of winning gold medals in Vienna and Israel.

"Stage one was completed last year and now, with the addition of Josh, we are preparing this squad to complete stage two.

"We still have 10 players from the Vienna squad, while the eight new boys who have come in following the trials have already bedded in nicely.

"The Management team will be working with the boys on a regular basis over the next 10 months, instilling in them a professional attitude that I am sure they will all appreciate once the actual completion begins.

"We will also make sure that every single one of them understands the importance of being a Jewish sportsman, representing their country on the world stage, whilst embracing the Maccabiah movement at all times."
