MJSL review: September 15

articlemain

There were plenty of goals in the weekend’s MJSL Joan Collins Premier Division action.

The big game of the weekend saw a rematch of the MJSL Charity Shield as Maccabi Manchester 2nds travelled to Leeds Maccabi 2nds.

As was the case in the Shield, it was the Mancunian side who took home the win, delivering their opponents a thrashing in a 7-2 victory. Jack Myers, Daniel Rubinstein and Jake Berger all found the net twice, with Dan Margolis also scoring for the second week in a row.

Max Elgot and Johnny Goldstone scored for Leeds.

The win sees Manchester maintain their 100 per cent start and leaves them second in the table.

Early pace setters AFC Flixton Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw away at Maccabi Manchester 3rds with goals by the visitors Daniel Warwick and Jordan Gold cancelled out by the hosts’ Josh Gellman and Leo Berger.

It was a game of firsts as Haroldeans secured their first win of the season, enjoying a 3-2 success at Reich Insurance Rangers, condemning the hosts to their first defeat of the campaign.

Simon Lachs and Paul Delmonte had struck for Rangers, but goals from Bobby Fishel, Jacob Nevitt and Jonny Harris ensured the away side headed home with the three points.

Heaton Park Rovers were the final victors of the MJSL action, securing a 5-2 win against South Manchester Sports 2nds. Harry Roache and Marc Woolfe both scored braces, with the League’s leading scorer Jonathan Franks also finding the net again.

Replies from Mike Filson and a Nathan Ezair penalty turned out to be consolations as Manchester lost their second successive game, leaving them bottom of the pile.
