South Manchester 2nd booked their place in the final of the Feldman Trophy with a 2-1 victory over faltering Republic of Mancunia.

Things got off to a bad start for South as with the match barely five minutes old, Sam Cantor, South Manchester's young centre forward, was injured and had to be transferred to hospital for suspected torn ankle ligaments.

After a 40-minute delay the match resumed, and South were quickly into their stride, hitting the woodwork twice in quick succession.

Republic's Paul Basger responded with an effort of his own which clipped the bar, but South eventually went ahead when Nathan Ezair curled a free kick into the net just before half time.

South controlled the second period and doubled their advantage with fifteen minutes remaining to seal their place in the final, when Marc Perry's free kick was pushed out only as far as Dan Linton, who gleefully slotted home.

Republic pulled one goal back deep into injury time as Dave Eden pounced from a Basger corner, but it was too late to make a difference.

South manager Neil Collins said: "It was a great win and performance from us in a very tough and even game, marred by the accident with Sam.

"We fought for everything, settled the quicker and apart from Basger's header and the goal Republic did not have an effort on target."

Repoublic were chasing a treble just a fortnight ago and Anthony Bloch's men will now be desperate to make sure that they don't end their season empty-handed when they contest the Shonn Trophy final against Haroldeans.

The Liverpudlians warmed up for their meeting in style, thumping Sporting JLGB 5-1 in the Joan Collins Premier Division.

Josh Silverberg, Zach Goodman, Alistair Goldsmith, Jamie Harris and Jonathon Isaacs were on the scoresheet for last season's champions, as they ensured that Haroldeans would finish the league season in the top half of the table.
