MJSL review

articlemain

Basement battlers Sporting JLGB caused shock of the day in the latest round of MJSL matches after becoming the first team to beat title hopefuls Hyde Park Rovers this season.

Rovers, who dropped their first points of the season in last Wednesday’s draw with Oakhill, found themselves 4-1 down before David James and player-manager Phillip Braham drew them level at the death.

But with seconds remaining, Uri Steinberg scrambled home his second of the game to give Sporting an unlikely win to end Rovers’ unbeaten record.

Republic of Mancunia continued their championship charge with a 4-2 win over South Manchester SC 2nd.

Both Oli and Paul Basger were on target for Republic while Moishe Hasid and Jonny Lewis added further goals.

Darren Brewer and Aaron Searle were on target for South Manchester, who drop to third following the defeat.

In the first round of the Feldman Trophy, league leaders Manchester Maccabi 3rd pulled off a 3-1 win away at Westdene 1st.

Jonny Rose, Richard Myers and Adam Stevens grabbed the goals for the visitors with Adam Herman claiming a consolation for Westdene 1st.

Oakhill Lions roared into the next round thanks to the 7-1 thrashing of Crumpsall.
