Lions manager Tony Gold was left to reflect on an opportunity missed after his team were beaten by a last-minute goal from Met Police in the semi-finals of the Aubrey Cup.

Gold said: "We were an accident waiting to happen and it happened in the 90th minute.

London Maccabi Lions Under Nine's A team have reached the final of the Watford Friendly League Cup after beating league leaders Harvesters on penalties.

A depleted Lions squad were indebted to a brace from Joe Leslie including one in extra time. Then keeper Hadley Shapps came into his own, saving two potentially decisive spot-kicks. Shapps capped off an excellent game by converting the winning kick himself.

Lions manager Lee Collins said: "I'm proud of the boys. They never know when they are beaten. We have the smallest squad in the league but probably the tightest. This team has the potential to go on to be one of the best Lions team ever."
