MAL 2nd edged out by Crouch End

MAL 2nd went down by 22 runs in a well-contested friendly against Crouch End.

Michael Klinger, on his first outing as captain for MAL 2nd, lost the toss and was asked to field by the opposition captain Felix Middleton, who according to the reporter is no relation to Kate.

Anthony Cowan opened the bowling with Klinger and both were very economical with the score on 20–2 after 10 overs, Lazar catching at point off Cowan's bowling and Klinger getting his second run out in two weeks after a mix-up between the batsman and good work in the field by Rubenstein.

With the game reduced to 35 overs due to the rain, Avi Gelley and Lazar bowled in extremely tough conditions. Lazar bowled well with his off-stump line and Gelley kept the pressure on with a good tight spell which enabled MAL to keep the run rate down.

Debutant Rubenstein bowled well considering it was his first-ever 11-a-side game and Hill was a good support at the other end with a wicket.

Vignoles came on to bowl at the death with Cowan and claimed a caught and bowled and run out in his two overs. Crouch End finished on 160-7 off 35 overs.

Hill and Vignoles opened the batting with Hill going early in the innings. Singer joined Vignoles and the boundaries started to come with both putting away the bad balls.

The wicket of Singer saw Allweis come to the crease but he was bowled by a beauty. Joel Newman, another debutant, steadied the ship with Vignoles again, both looking to score off the bad balls. Vignoles was bowled for a well made 33 which brought Rocker to the crease who came out hitting for a quick fire 7.

Newman followed after making a very good 29 which included four boundaries. Klinger was bowled by a rip-snorter of a yorker and Gelley was unlucky to be bowled. Cowan came in at number 10 and supported Lazar very well in a partnership of 44 which looked like seeing MAL home.

However, Crouch End brought back on the quicks who polished off Cowan (23, his PB) and Lazar who did well for his 29. MAL finished their innings on 138.
