Maccabi U11 start in style

articlemain

Maccabi Under 11's kicked off their season with a solid performance in the their first game at the 11-a-side level.

Playing at home on a full size pitch for the first time was always going to be hard for the youngsters, and managers Mark Cook and Ian Ballin set the team up to play in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

Maccabi took the lead halfway through the first half when Marley Rubens picked up on the ball on the halfway line and danced around two defenders before squaring to Sam Green who made no mistake from eight yards.

Another swift attack saw Jamie Hamburger in similarly clinical form from six yards to send Maccabi 2-0 with the Jack Showman in the Maccabi goal having to make one very smart save before the end of the half.

Maccabi were not, though, playing fluidly and were thankful to their midfield and Max Ballin in particular for breaking up play.

A half time chat saw them come out much brighter though, and playing down hill also helped.

From a rare Medlock attack Maccabi broke and with Sam Green running half the pitch before turning two defenders and rifling the ball home to make it 3-0.

Other chances came and went before Eli Bloom picked the ball up on the edge of the area, going past to defenders and sending the ball into the top left hand corner with the outside of his boot.

The game ended 4-0 and the teams meet again next week.
