Maccabi GB women's football focus

articlemain

Maccabi GB have appointed a new committee aimed at developing junior girls' and women's football.

Brad Solomon will chair the committee with Dr Tamar Koch named vice-chairman. They will help to prepare the squads over the next three years, including the 2011 European Maccabi Games and 2013 Maccabiah.

The pair have been set a series of aims and objectives to build a platform for GB's medal push.

These include building on the success of both inaugural squads at the last Maccabiah, creating a fluid link and offering UEFA licence B qualified coaches to both squads and develop squads capable of challenging for medals. Solomon and Koch will also run regular training camps at Bisham Abbey and Lilleshall and help arrange regular friendlies.

Solomon said: "Tamar and I looking forward to generating enthusiasm and a competitive spirit when building the squads. We're keen to find a range of players who have not been involved in representing Maccabi GB and encourage players from all over Britain to get involved.

"By running training camps in the north of England as well as in the south, we hope to tempt more players to sign. After the success of the women's squad in Israel, we were keen to help
develop Jewish grass roots football further."

Trials for a 22-woman squad will be held at Rowley Lane on July 4. Once selected, the group will be taken to Lilleshall in early September, culminating in a friendly against Chesterfield Ladies Town.

The girls squad, for players aged 14-16, will take place at Rowley Lane on July 11. From this, 20 players will be selected to attend a training camp in the autumn.
