Maccabi GB unveils Games management team

articlemain

Maccabi GB have named the management team that will lead Team GB at next summer’s European Maccabi Games in Vienna.

Daniel Collins and Jonathan Green will front the senior team while the juniors will be led by David Jacobs and Brian Green.

Collins has been involved with the Maccabi movement for a number of years. Maccabi GB’s Head of Sport since 2008, Collins has a lifelong association with Brady Maccabi and is currently the vice-Chairman. He has played football in the Maccabi Leagues and has twice represented Team GB at Maccabiah as part of the Master’s Futsal team and won a silver medal in 2005

Green will also add his experience to the management team and is excited about the challenge ahead. “I've been lucky enough to represent GB at both Maccabiah and European Maccabi Games as a competitor and, more recently, as a parent and spectator,” he said. “David (Kyte) is passionately committed to providing the best possible Maccabi experience for everyone selected for Vienna 2011 and I am delighted to be part of the team that will make this happen.”

The Juniors are also in very experienced hands, as the managers have a wealth of experience at this age group. David Jacobs has not only managed many Junior football teams at EMG’s and at Maccabiot, but has also been the Maccabi GB team manager at two EMG’s in 1999 and 2007, as well as at the JCC Maccabi Games in 1998.

Brian Green, Chair of Junior Football and Futsal at last summer’s Maccabiah Games, also has a rich Maccabi history and is looking forward to next summer’s Games. “It is a great honour once again to be Joint Junior Team Manager for the European Games as I was in Rome four years ago, but this time alongside David, and it is our intention to take the largest and best prepared Junior squad ever to a European Games.

“Apart from Football, Futsal, Tennis and Table Tennis where we have always had strong representation we are now looking to boost the numbers in the squad by having representation in Badminton, Golf, Chess, Basketball and Swimming.

“We aim to give the whole Junior Squad a wonderful experience on and off the field of play with not only a very strong International sporting competition but to compliment it with a social, educational and cultural programme.”

Trials for futsal and football will be held over the coming months. Anyone wishing to attend must register online at www.maccabigb.org. Confirmed trial dates are as follows:

Open Men: Hatfield on June 6

Junior Boys: Rowley Lane on June 6 and 27
