articlemain

The Maccabi Lawn Bowls Israel Tour completed its second successful visit with matches against local opposition.

The entire party, comprising 37 people, including 29 bowlers, spent eight days in Israel and visited The Israel Sports Centre for the Disabled, Boys Town Jerusalem and The Therapeutic Horse Riding Centre as part of a varied and informative programme.

The group were hosted by four clubs where the top performing teams were Ruth Harris, Anthony Goldwater and Michael Taylor in Ra’anana, Doug Greenston, Lee Greenston and Philip Norman in Netanya, Frank Dryer, Marsha Dryer and Gill Lewis in Haifa and Melvyn Lesser, Rose Stern and Michael Taylor in Kiryat Ono.

Team captain Ruth Harris said: "The bowling was of a very good standard, with the clubs fielding a number of Israeli internationals."

Group leader Stuart Lustigman commented: "Lawn bowls was a perfect sport for this type of tour and I was very proud of every one of our players and supporters, some of whom had not visited Israel for a number of years. I am optimistic the tour will be replicated next year."
