Jacobs, who has represented MGB as a player at previous International Games, will be assisted by Elan Ovits and former Premier League star Mikele Leigertwood.

The experienced trio will aim to better that of previous years where they took home bronze in 2009 and 2013.

Jacobs said: “Nobody is going to hand us a medal. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, talent and most importantly excellent team spirit on and off the pitch.

“We are certainly on the right path with an extremely talented squad of players, several of whom have represented MGB in previous Maccabiah and European Maccabi Games.

“We are hopeful that if we prepare well we’ll be able to narrow the gap to the top nations”.

A gold medallist at the European Maccabi Games in 1999, Ovits added: “It’s always an honour to be able to represent your country at the highest level and we are all eagerly anticipating playing in the Maccabiah against some of the best footballing nations from around the world.”

Sam Sloma has been appointed captain of the squad that has already held several training sessions and played a number of warm-up matches as they look to ready themselves for a fantastic experience in Israel.
