Maccabi Netanya boss Lothar Matthaus threatened to quit last week, even though his team are top of the Israeli Premier Division.

He was furious after being detained at Ben Gurion Airport for two hours when returning from a holiday in Spain because he had still not been issued with a work permit. Matthaus received the permit on Sunday after the intervention of Netanya Mayor, Miriam Feirberg-Ikar.
