London Maccabi Vale won the first piece of silverware of the season after retaining the Maccabi Indoor 6-a-side Trophy in convincing fashion in Canary Wharf.

Captained by Team GB star Saul Weitzman, LMV finished with a 100 per cent record, winning four matches in the round robin tournament.

On the eve of the competition, LMV were struggling to field a team but they named an eight-man squad with Richard Black, Aryeh Myers, Elliott Coulten, Jonathan Daniels, colt Jamie Leboff and the father and son team of Jon and Benji Lederman joining Weitzman.

Chigwell were comfortably beaten in match one as three run-outs from Lederman seen saw the East Londoners restricted to 99. LMV eased home with four overs to spare with a combination of runs from Black, Weitzman and extras seeing them home.

High-fancied Belmont & Edgware were put to the sword in match two. The match swung in LMV’s favour following a stunning over from Benjamin Lederman resulted in three wickets in four balls. BECC never recovered and were dismissed for a paltry 46. Another excellent knock from Black wrapped up victory.

Some late big hitting from Black and Coulten helped LMV amass a healthy 135 against MAL who were restricted to 78.

The final match saw Black and Coulten go on the rampage in the final three overs after returning to the crease having retired on 25. They went on the rampage, steering LMV to 143. Southgate’s reply finished 20 runs short.
