LMV bow out of Conference Cup

London Maccabi Vale bowed out of the Conference Cup following a 6 wickets defeat against Beaconsfield.

What was always going to be an impossible dream nearly turned into a fantastic reality thanks to a terrific new ball spell from Daniel Cohen and Saul Weitzman, who reduced the Home Counties League team to

2-4 in the 4th over of their reply chasing a very modest 148.

Cohen's initial two overs were sensational and he had figures of 3-1. However, a simple dropped catch from captain Adam Brand opposition’s best batsman off the hook with the score on 50 and with four further dropped catches, LMV threw away the advantage and Beaconsfield never looked back as they won with overs to spare.

Earlier, openers Danny Caro and Martin Schultz had started the day brightly with an opening partnership of 40 at four an over. Brand and Scott Gerrard departed early but at 98-4 in the 20th over LMV had high hopes of hitting 200.

Shot selection from the remaining batsman saw LMV manage only 50 more runs for the loss of five wickets. Other bright spots in the batting were a fluent 33 in 22 balls from Mark Bott, which included

two sixes, and a breezy 33 from Jon Galloway who struck four fours and a six.

Brand said: “We were truly disappointing in the field.”
