Lions ready to roar, says Gothelf

Zack Gothelf reckons he’s got Oakhill Lions ready to roar up the MJSL league table following their second win of the campaign.

Lions extended their unbeaten run to five games after seeing off Republic of Mancunia 2nd 2-1 with Jonny Davies and Simon Finkelstein on target.

And despite Rob Selwyn and Josh Barth both seeing red, Gothelf was thrilled with the way his side fought back after trailing at the break.

“I think we’re really up and running now and we’re looking a very confident side,” he said.

“We know that we’re a good side and we don’t fear playing against anybody so we’re looking forward to next week against Manchester Maccabi 3rd already.

“We played very well against Republic and could have been four or five up at half time.

“But as normal we left it late and it was a bit of a heart in mouth moment at the end.”

Blake Englander had given Republic a first-half lead but Davies grabbed an equaliser before Finkelstein grabbed the points in stoppage time.

The win came as a huge relief to Gothelf, who saw Selwyn dismissed for two yellow cards and Barth sent off after the final whistle for dissent.

“It was a shame to have the two lads sent off but it gives other people a chance to stake their claim,” he said.

“We’ve got a big squad full of quality and we’ll have a strong team out for the game with Maccabi next weekend.”
