London Maccabi Lions won the Under 11 competition at the Jom Ha Voetbal event in Amsterdam.

In a tournament featuring teams from across Europe and Israel, the Lions progressed undefeated, winning three matches and drawing another before crushing Dutch side RP Rennende Rabbis 4-0 in the final.

Sam Brummer (4), Sam Morgan (2), Jack Richards (2), JoJo Jaffe and Oliver Starr were the marksmen for Lions whose keeper Jack Glazer returned home with an unblemished record.

Lions manager Antony Snow said: "I'm extremely proud of my team. We played with great skill and determination and I believe this victory marks a first European trophy for the London Lions junior division."

In an event featuring 62 teams, ranging from 16 to over 60 years, WHAFC produced their best finish in recent years with third place in the senior tournament.

The team of north Londoners finished top of their group with Tony Plaskow, Darren Saffer (2) and Lee Dicker helping them to two wins and a draw.

Lloyd Becker was the matchwinner in the quarter-final win over LJG Rotterdam.

There was heartbreak in the semi-final against Guts & Glory as a penalty miss from Ben Simons saw WHAFC eliminated in the shootout after Adam Lustigman and Becker converted.

Player-manager Adam Lustigman said: "I'm still trying to work out if we've improved or if our opponents were weaker this year. We surprised ourselves as well as many others.

"Four clean sheets in five games was fantastic. Andy Okin made some fantastic saves and everyone worked hard. We passed ball well and defended superbly.

"Given our success, we plan to take the same players again next year and go one better."

Smoll Passy of France finished as overall winners after beating Guts & Glory in the final.

South Manchester Sports Club won the Plate Competition to finish ninth overall.
