Lion cubs edge home

London Maccabi Lions Under 14s have won the Watford Friendly League White Division title.

They bounced back in style following three defeats in September to go on an unbeaten run of eight league matches between October to mid-April They also reached the quarter-finals of the Hertfordshire County Cup and the WFL Challenge and League Cups.

The Lions kept themselves in contention with an excellent 3-1 victory against leaders Edson Youth 3-1 and go top. After going down against bogey team Comets in their penultimate game, the pressure was on and it came down to the last game of the season.

Lions beat Alexandra Park South 5-1 and with Edson losing 4-2 against Hadley Rangers, Lions edged home by a single point. Manager Simon Ellard said: "It is a fantastic achievement. The lads should be extremely proud of themselves. Although it will be tough we are all looking forward to competing in the premier division next year."
