Lawn bowls delegation fly the flag in Israel

articlemain

A group of 34 people including 26 players from the Maccabi Lawn Bowls Association GB have completed a week-long tour of Israel.

The delegation played matches against the bowling clubs of Ra'anana, Ramat Gan, Haifa and Jerusalem. The matches proved very challenging but were not without some success.

The top GB triples team in the two-day match against Ra'anana were Stuart and Sheila Rose, together with John Laurence and Ruth Harris, Michael Allen and Elaine Rees had success in Haifa.

There was a team victory by 36 shots for Great Britain over Jerusalem with Michael Baum, Ruth Allen and Gerald Diamond taking top spot and Ray Harris, Hilary Burns and Anthony Goldwater in second place.

GB captain Ruth Harris said: "This whole trip was a great experience and in lawn bowls the more you play, the more you learn."

The tour was organised and headed by Stuart Lustigman who has for many years taken masters football delegations to Israel.

"This trip was another example of how sport can be used as a vehicle to support Israel and give players who might not make the Maccabiah a similar experience,” he said. “I am now looking at other possibilities.”
