South Manchester Sports climbed to the top of the Manchester Accountants League Premier Division as a hat –trick from star striker Adam Lavin saw off spirited opponents Miam Miam who until tonight still had an outside chance of the league.

South started the game well and dominated early possession but failed to convert well created chances with Lavin and Toby Levy coming close when maybe they should have done better.

Having not been threatened for the first 30 minutes, Miam Miam took the lead against the run of play when a cheap corner was conceded and after a scramble in the box the ball was knocked in from a yard out.

On top of the injustice, South also lost midfielder Dan Adcock in the process of trying to stop the goal and he was replaced on 40 minutes by Alex Koslover, who was only on the bench due to his late arrival.

Half time came and manager Darryl Lee simply asked his players to keep playing the same way but to show a bit more calm in the area. Within 10 minutes South had taken the lead. Firstly, Lavin turned provider for Toby Levy to run through and slot the ball into the bottom corner to bring the scores level, before Levy returned the compliment and Lavin scored his first of the night.

However, Miam Miam showed their quality and scored a fine header to bring the scores level with 20 minutes remaining.

Manager Lee then went for broke, replacing Marc Yaffe with Jack Lee and adopting a 4-4 -2 formation. The 80th minute was to prove vital as firstly keeper Conor Rabbett made a fantastic save to stop the opposition scoring, and almost immediately Lee broke forward and was hacked down in the box after a jinking run. Lavin coolly slotted in the penalty.

There was still time for Miam Miam to hit the post, but with only two minutes remaining Lavin made the game safe with a fantastic dribble from corner flag to six-yard box before rolling the ball in to complete his hat-trick and to seal the game and end the opposition's title aspirations.

Manager Darryl Lee said: ”That was a massive win against the best team we have played this season in the league. We are now top and realistically six points from our remaining four games will win us the league.

"We now turn our attention to the cup as it’s the quarter-final on Sunday and we want to go all the way in that competition as well."

South's next match is against PWC in the Accountants League Cup on Sunday. It kicks-off at 10.30am at the Armitage Centre.
