Landau shines as MAL beat Regals

articlemain

A magnificent knock of 89 from Mark Landau inspired MAL to a 53-run success overs Regals CC.

On a pitch sodden by Saturday's rain, Regals won the toss and opted to bowl first. With the pitch playing all sorts of tricks, Landau and Jonny Evans were circumspect early. Evans was the first wicket to fall, bowled by Ranveer for 6, with the score on 28.

Ami Wymbourne followed shortly afterwards for 5, caught off the bowling of the excellent Parag. Brother Jonny Wymbourne made 8 before he too, fell to Parag, bowled for 8.

Landau was watchful against the good deliveries, but dismissive of anything off line or length, finding the boundary with regularity. Shaffer struck the ball well during his 22, before he was bowled by Sanjiv for 22.

Landau went through to his half century from 57 balls before cutting loose, and moving to 89 from 83 balls, with 9 4s and 4 6s, during a partnership of 53 with Yoav Lebens, who made 16.

In reply, Binny Feinmesser (1-15) and Tim Segal (1-14) opened well with the ball, finding decent pace and good movement to remove first Rajan and then Suchen.

Simon Rocker and Matt Segal replaced them after 10 overs, and Simon had Vinod caught by Dan Sher in his first over for 16. Mohak played some good shots, but found little support. Mohit was caught by Feinmesser off Matt for 10, before a catch by brother Tim accounted for Matt's second wicket.

Ami Wymbourne bowled Paras with a yorker, to leave Regals 92-6. Mohak's enterprising innings of 48 was ended when he was well held at deep square leg by Feinmesser off David Marks.

The end came quickly, as the slow bowling of Marks and Dan Sher proved hard to get away. Sanjiv was caught at deep midwicket by Feinmesser off Sher, before Yoav Lebens took an outstanding one-handed slip catch off Parag, from Marks' bowling, and Sher then had Akshay caught at mid on by Marks for 0.

Regals were all out for 122, and MAL victorious by 53 runs.
