Landau in inspirational form as MAL clinch promotion

articlemain

Maccabi Association London won by five wickets against London Maccabi Vale to move to within one win of the Middlesex Sunday Cricket League Division Two title, clinching promotion in the process.

MAL skipper Gay Lebens won the toss and elected to put Vale in to bat. Grant Pakter's bowling in particular was superb in the first over, taking two for 24, with Yoav Lebens adding another three for nineteen.

Jonathan Gould and Sim Cohen batted well for Vale to keep them in the game, but some more impressive bowling from Grant Traub, who saw just 14 runs recorded during his eight overs, and a superb four for six from captain Mark Landau meant that MAL caught their opponents all out for 118.

When MAL came to the crease they found themselves up against tricky bowling from Vale, with Jamie Breslaw and Jon Lederman asking questions of the opposing batsmen. Eventually Landau and John Lazar started to pile on the runs for MAL with 62, with the captain reaching a total of 59 before being caught out. Rothband took two for four and Lederman another two for 22, but Lazar and Traub hit boundaries to guide their side towards the target with five wickets remaining.

Landau was delighted with his team's success.

"It feels fantastic having secured our second successive promotion. The performance of all the boys has been brilliant throughout the season.

"We are now fully focused on our final league game and clinching the title."
