JC MSFL DIVISION THREE
Los Blancos 1 Team JLGB 0
Joel Kutner was the match-winner as Los Blancos overcame the stubborn resistance of basement battlers Team JLGB.
Kutner gave Blancos the lead early on after being sent clear by a sumptuous through ball, although JLGB felt he was offside.
Blancos edged the first half but it was JLGB who were the better team in the second half, controlling the game more in midfield with Josh Danan in good form for much of the second half.
Chances began to fall for both teams but a combination of good saves and missed opportunities kept the score at 1-0.
Barry Green, Matt West, James Wright and David Mitchell all went close for JLGB.
JC Sports Editor Danny Caro called the star man correctly this week. Rob Levene was inspired form. The only time he was beaten was from a "blatant offside position" and the goal stood.
Levene made three incredible saves and a great double stop with his feet. The first save occurred when the a ball was played in from a wide position. JLGB defenders were not able to cleasr and it ended up at the feet of a Los Blancos player1 yard out. Levene somehow managed to scramble to the other side of the goal just in time to prevent the ball crossing the line.
The second save occurred with Rob reaching high to push a well hit shot above him. The ball then dropped down and spun back towards goal. With Rob on the deck he managed to reach up and palm the ball away.
JLGB manager Rob Silverman told JC Sport: "We were so close to at least a point today. The fact that the Los Blancos goal was blatantly offside only adds to the frustration. We really have had some incredible bad luck this season, but of course realise that we don't have the strongest side either.
"Two games left, and I am desperate to get at least a point!"
Blancos boss Joel Minsky told JC Sport: "It was a fully deserved three points for Blancos today, but the main talking point will be how JLGB were still in the game right up until the final whistle.
"A return to the scoresheet for Kutner could come at no better time for him ahead of next weeks crunch tie against Blizzard Storm - Kutner's old club.
"Blancos completely dominated the first 45 with JLGB barely able to get the ball out of their own half, but with only the one goal to show for it.
"To JLGB's credit they did come back stronger in the second half, came close to an unfancied equaliser in the dying stages."
