Korzits's Olympic dream

Lee Korzits is confident she can follow her success at the windsurfing World Championships by taking gold at the London Olympics next year.

She became the first Israeli to be crowned a two-time world champion in the sport after winning in Australia.

Korzits said: "An Olympic medal is now my dream. Things are always dependent on the weather conditions but I'm going to make the best possible preparations and I hope to be standing on the podium again in England.

"I am a proud Israeli and it is very moving to hear Hatikvah being played because of me."

Korzits's performance in Perth capped a remarkable comeback for the 27-year-old. Having won the world title in 2003, she managed only 13th place in the Athens Olympics and failed to qualify for Beijing.

She planned retirement after a crippling accident in Hawaii left her with a broken leg and had to be resuscitated after nearly drowning in last year's European Championships.

She said: "I've been through so many crazy dramas and suddenly I'm world champion again.

"It's a huge achievement for me, especially considering what I've been through."

This week, Shahar Zubari, who took bronze at the Beijing Olympics, and 2009 world silver medallist Nimrod Mashiah face off in the men's windsurfing World Championships in Perth, with the best-placed competitor taking Israel's only berth in the Olympics.

Mashiah was leading with eight races to go, while Zubari was only ranked 21st.
