Kennet takes charge at Redbridge JC

articlemain

Eilon Kennet has been appointed manager of double winners Redbridge Jewish Care.

Kennet stepped down from a similar role at London Maccabi Lions A at the end of last season.

He takes over from Sam McCarthy, the JC MSFL Manager of the Year, who stepped down at the weekend, citing off the field commitments.

Speaking about the appointment, Kennet told JC Sport: "I wasn't expecting to return to management so soon but Redbridge were very persuasive.

"I was sad to leave Lions but it was an easy decision to join Redbridge.

"The challenge for the new season is to retain the league title and win the double again.

"The challenge is a considerably hard one. It's always harder to retain the league than to win it, but that's the challenge."

Asked for his main title challengers, Kennet said: "The usual suspects - Neasden, Hendon, Faithfold and Lions."

McCarthy will be remembered as the man who led RJC to their first-ever MSFL Premier Division title. He capped off a memorable season by leading the team to a 2-1 victory over Hendon United to win the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup.

Explaining his decision to step down, McCarthy told JC Sport: "Work and domestic duties would not have not provided me with the ability to give the team the 100 per cent it needs and duly deserves from me as a manager.

"It has been a very difficult decision and one that has ebbed and flowed over the past few weeks. I will still be there on Sundays, giving RJC my full support, but back again as a dad watching my son.

"I will miss the dressing room banter, all of the lads and being involved with Maccabi. Who knows, I may be back in the future."

Kennet will run the team along with coach Danny Berg. He said: "Eilon will be good for us. He knows a few of the boys and will be a great asset."

Redbridge's Richard Bronzite said: "Everyone at the club would like to thank Sam immensely for creating history at our club which will never be forgotten.

"He took us to a different level and we wish him all the best for the future."

Stirling Kay has been appointed as manager of Redbridge B with Daniel Gordon taking over from Richard Bronzite at the helm of Redbridge C.

Berg will remain as head coach for all senior teams at Redbridge with Bronzite continuing to play a key role.
