Jubilation for Joe Jacobson

articlemain

Joe Jacobson believes his Shrewsbury Town side are all set up for a real crack at League One next season.

The Shrews sealed promotion following last weekend's 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

And defender Jacobson insists his current team are more than capable of making the step up following a nine-year exile in the bottom tier.

"This is one of the best squads I've been involved with," Jacobson said. "There's real quality and I'm sure we can go up and do very well.

"It's the dream end to a perfect season for me having signed in the summer and played nearly every game.

"From beating Swansea in the Carling Cup and then getting to play at The Emirates against Arsenal, it has been brilliant.

"And it's great for the club, too, because they've been really good to me."

Current boss Graham Turner last led the club to promotion back in 1979 and this latest triumph has got the whole town talking. Jacobson said: "It was wonderful to celebrate with the fans and be amongst it instead of watching it on television. We stood on the balcony and celebrated with the supporters and it was just a great feeling."

The 25-year-old has also turned his attention to a meeting with former Oldham teammate Dean Furman with both men determined to claim bragging rights.

"I've already had a few messages from Deano," he added. "I'm actually going away this summer for a few days with Dean and his brother but I'm looking forward to going back to Oldham and I can't wait to play against him."
