Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram boosted their chances of qualifying for this summer’s Olympic Games after winning the men’s doubles title at the Serbian Open.
Victory over Martin Emmrich and Andreas Siljestrom in Belgrade was Ram and Erlich’s first success on clay and lifted them to 45th in the world rankings. They will now look to repeat their efforts at the forthcoming French Open, having been set a qualification criteria of 35 in the world by the Olympic Committee of Israel.
Shahar Peer, another Olympic hopeful, will return to the WTA top 50 after a rare victory over a player ranked above her. She beat Slovenia’s Polona Hercog (37) at the Madrid Open.
