Rand, 17, recently donned the armband for an international double-header in Holland, which England won 4-2 and 3-1.

The JFS 6th former, who lives in Mill Hill, started playing futsal four years ago after “falling out of love with football”. He joined the Pro Futsal London team, run by Jon Kurrant, and after impressing at the European Maccabi Games in Berlin — where he helped Maccabi GB win gold in the under-16 competition — he targeted a place in the National Futsal Super League.

A former player of Whetstone Wanderers and Maccabi London Lions, Rand (pictured bottom row, centre) joined Reading Escolla FC in the Super League. He attends bi-monthly training camps with England and said: “It was a great experience playing on the international stage. I enjoyed the intense atmosphere and it making me hungrier to learn.

“I love the speed of the game and the fact that every player on the pitch is constantly involved. There is no hiding place and you have to be clever and energetic.”

Asked about his biggest qualities, Rand replied: “I have a good understanding of the game, good movement and a great left foot. I also work really hard on my fitness in the gym.”

The matches against Holland were part of England’s preparations for the European Championships and Rand said: “I’ve got to keep working hard to keep my place in the squad.”
