Jets snatch opening league win

articlemain

North West London Jets under-13s began their Excel League campaign with a 1-0 victory against HMH Eilat.

Both these teams had met previously in pre-season, with the Jets coming out on top on both occasions. However, the league encounter was a much closer affair with both teams having equal amounts of possession and chances throughout the game.

NWLJ had the best chance to open the scoring in the first half after Raphael de Beck Spitzer was given a clear run at goal, only to be brought down on the edge of the penalty area. The subsequent free-kick sailed over the crossbar.

NWLJ came out for the second half demonstrating some of their passing qualities which were lacking in the first 25 minutes and consequently opened the scoring through de Beck Spitzer slotting the ball beyond the HMH Eilat goalkeeper to give his team a well deserved lead.

HMH Eilat dominated the final five minutes but were unable to find a way back into the game as the Jets defence and goalkeeper pulled off some fine blocks to cling onto a well deserved clean sheet.
