JC Olim League Week Six review

articlemain

Week 6 in the Olim league in Israel saw a goal fest with 22 goals scored in 3 matches.

Defending champions England FC proved too strong for Aviv City FC with Yaron Galinsky scoring a hat-trick in a 6-0 victory.

Playing their second game of the season on a chilled Tel Aviv evening, Aviv set their stall out early on as they looked to catch the champions on the break and nearly caught the back four cold. But the pressure finally told as Jonathan Ellman made a powerful run down the right and shot across the City keeper and into the bottom corner.

The game was played mostly in Aviv’s half and after three consecutive corners the ball found its way to an unmarked Yaron Galinsky who drove in at the back post to make it 2-0 to the champions.

The ball just would not fall for Aviv as they tried to clear their lines and after some neat work in the middle Galinsky charged in to the box and struck a sweet shot to make it 3-0.

In the second half the next goal did not come till the 60th minute when the man of the match Galinsky claimed his third again from some flowing football.

A fifth came a few minutes later with Roy Bihi knocking the ball down to Galinsky who volleyed the ball into the roof of the net.

The game came to a close with the final kick of the game when the experienced Jonny Binke popped up in the box to side foot in from close range to make the final score 6-0.

Aviv City boss Richard Binstock said: “We knew this was going to be a touch fixture and we did have some good spells. Unfortunately they did not lead to many chances and we were mainly defending against an organized and experienced England FC side.

“We have now and to regroup and refocus for next months fixtures.”

England’s manager Yoni Sidi said: “They made it hard for us to get the ball down but we moved the ball quickly and the movement up top was good that we created spaces and chances but I think it was a fair result.”

In a mid-table clash, Raanana and Modiin opened up their third game of the season both having one win and one loss to their names. Last season Modiin beat Raanana twice and so Raanana felt that they had something to prove in this game. Those hopes were tested early on with two quick goals for Modiin, scored by Sharon Attias and Chaim Finn.

Raanana got themselves together and by the half the score was level at 2-2 with contributions from Rafi Kanichowsky and Ariel Langer.

Raanana continued to apply pressure which paid off with two goals in quick succession one by Rafi Schachat, who chested the ball into the ne,t and Moshe Freedmen who struck an angled goal past the keeper.

Kanichowsky made it 5-2 with his second contribution and the game looked all but sealed with Raanana’s defence proving quite difficult to get past. The deadlock was broken in emphatic fashion with a second goal by Finn that left the keeper with no chance making it 5-3. Raanana got one more via the second contribution from Langer.

Elsewhere the two new, non-Anglo teams in the league met with Brazil traveling down to Ashdod to take on with their skillful French squad. Brazil were beaten 7-0 and then had to schlap 40 minutes back up to Tel Aviv. Ashdod are the league’s surprise package with three wins out of three, putting them second behind Jaffa FC.

Next week Jerusalem host Netanya.
