An own goal from Paul Buxton steered the Maccabi Masters Rep Team into the next round of the Peter Morrison Trophy after they beat an experienced London Maccabi Lions B team on the 3G at Rowley Lane.
The Lions team was boosted by several members of the team who play in the Garston Vets League but they could not the defending Masters champions in a hard-fought contest.
Scott Ansher had a helping hand in the decisive goal, with his dangerous cross turned over the line by the unfortunate Buxton.
Masters player-manager Dan Collins told JC Sport: "I'm really proud of the performance of my team yesterday, against an exceptionally strong Lions side. The level of passion and commitment of my players was the only thing between the sides.
"I'm looking forward to the next round and would like to repeat our feat of the last two seasons of reaching the quarter finals. it all depends on who we draw but feel we can give anyone a game on our day."
Lions joint-manager Danny Reuben said: "We played very well against a dogged Maccabi Rep Team - we had the balance of play and umpteen shots, corners etc, but couldn't score. They, on the other hand, didn't really trouble our keeper in any way until we put one in our own net!. That's cup football. Shortly before their goal I turned to Danny Collins (their manager) on the sidelines (I had come off injured at this stage) and said that whilst we were dominating, but not killing the game off, they were going to nick a goal. We had a laugh about it, as it wasn't particularly probable, until it happened within a few minutes - strange, but my laughter turned to frustration very quickly.
"After the game one of our players, Danny Schindler, said to me that "their desire to defend was greater than our desire to score" which pretty much summed up the game - we had the chances, the possession, but they, clearly fired up to get something from the game, put their bodies on the line with a number of terrific goalline clearances, which ultimately decided the tie.
"I wish them every success, hopefully they will go on to represent all of us Masters very well against younger opposition in the next round."

Two more goals from Josh Hershman helped Brady Maccabi end FC Team's winning league run in a seven-goal thriller at The Hive.
Richard Salmon had given Team an early advantage. Ben Gershuny levelled things up before Hershman gave Brady the upper hand.
Adam Rones and Jake Weiner hauled Team level only for Steve Field to win it.
Josh Rosenfeld, the Brady manager, said: "I’m a very happy manager after watching probably our perfomance of the season. We all battled hard for each other, showed great character after letting FC Team back into the game twice. However our heads never dropped and we always thought we could win the game.
"We conceded two sloppy goals from a corner which I am not to pleased about, but if you were at the game and looked at all four goals we scored, we are playing such wonderful football and the best thing is we are turning them in to goals.
"However, this is only one win and we go back to training mid week, we work hard and focus on Lions next week."
Brady’s assistant-manager Simon Hakim said: “This a huge fillip for us. We conceded a couple of bad goals from set-pieces but have scored four excellent ones ourselves. There’s three of us up there who are challenging for the title so it’s looking interesting for the rest of the season."
FC Team player manager Mitch Young said: “Fair play to Brady today. They did well. But we won’t be panicking. We have matches in hand and are still very happy with our start. We were caught out a bit on the break, but the goals they got were all well crafted so you have to credit them.”

WILY WOOLF TAKES RAIDERS CLEAR
CAMDEN PARK 1 NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B 2
Goals from Jonny Hesselberg and Nicky Woolf helped L'Orange extend their lead at the top following a hard fought win over Camden in Uxbridge.
Hesselberg put Raiders ahead after 10 minutes. Woolf missed a golden opportunity to double the advantage, missing from the penalty spot, but he made amend with a superb lob from the edge of the box.
Rep Team star Luke Brookner pulled one back for Camden in the second half but Raiders held on.
Raiders boss Rob Richman told JC Sport: "Firstly, I was just delighted that despite the terrible weather we were able to get the game played, it really is a benefit to play on an all-weather surface where we aren't reliant on a mild winter to get games on.
"Full credit to Camden for their willingness to switch the game. We weren't at our best today though we still managed to create a number of good chances. We were quite profligate in front of goal and we will need to be much more clinical in future games. Camden are another decent side who settled into the game as in went on and its fair to say that in the last 10 minutes we were holding on for the win."
Camden's Justin Rockberger commented: "It was a pretty close game but we started badly again... 2 down after 20 minutes didn't help the cause. In the end, we were a shade unlucky not to nick a point."

Strikes from Simon Perlmutter, Eli Houri (pen) and Zack McLeod helped leaders Norstar come from behind to end their Woodford curse as they beat the Wanderers in a five-goal thriller at John Lyons School in Harrow.
Jerome Marks bagged a brace from the penalty spot for Woodford who led 1-0 and 2-1.
Woodford player-manager Alex Aviram told JC Sport: "All the boys are bitterly dissapointed with the result. Even drawing didn't enter our heads before kick off, so to end up not getting anything from the game made the journey back to essex that little bit longer.
"I think if we were able to find another goal whilst we were leading, at either 1-0 or 2-1, we would have gone on to win the game. Only having 11 players without any substitutions due to injury and travels made that much more difficult.
"This is my third season in management and I have never resented paying a referee before. I appreciate everything the officials do for us on a Sunday morning but this was not a tough game to referee, we had two classy football teams with good relations between them and we feel as if the ref has ultimately cost us the game with the award of Norstar's penalty. Five minutes after taking the lead for the second time in the match, the ref awarded Norstar a penalty for a challenge so innocuous, that I can't even remember what it was for!
"Both teams carried on playing for a good 20 seconds, before the ref finally pulled play back and said that Norstar were being given a penalty. All our lads were livid, there was not one claim for a penalty, and no-one knew what was going on. There was no control or authority from the ref on this occasion. I'll break it down, there was 22 players and two linesman involved in this game, ultimately 24 in total and I can honestly say not one person involved knew what was happening. This error was certainly the turning point in the game. Although I admit, there was still time for us to regain the lead but having been such an unjustified decision it played a big influence on my team and we were never realy able to recover from it mentally.
"As always, when we play Norstar, there wasn't much between the teams. Unfortunately the game didn't flow well, and it was stop-start for the majority of the 90 minutes. Credit to Norstar they stayed strong and finally got there revenge after two seasons of heartbreak."
