Jackson quits Rovers for South

Hyde Park captain Adam Jackson has quit the Leeds side to sign for South Manchester Sports Club.

The highly-rated defender made his South debut as a 70th minute substitute during the 5-3 Peter Morrison Trophy win over Leeds Maccabi 2nd.

Jackson, who has played for South and Manchester Maccabi in the past, had been one of Hyde Park’s most important players in recent months.

But Rovers boss David Domb insists the player's decision to make the move across the Pennines was based purely on footballing reasons.

"AJ told me before our game against Sporting that he wanted to leave," said Domb.

"He wasn't enjoying himself as much anymore and I think he wanted a new challenge.

"He's been a great player for us and we wish him all the best but it leaves space for other players to come through.

"He's been top class for us and a great captain and I’m sure he’ll do well for South Manchester."

Rovers hardly missed their skipper with midfielder Ben Roback taking over the armband to inspire them to a 4-1 win over Sporting in the Peter Morrison Trophy.

David Seligman scored twice, while Dan Garman’s stupendous volley and a David Cohen strike gave Hyde Park a place in the last 16.

"We played some great football and that was without having six first-team regulars available," added Domb.

"It's nice to have a big win because it has been a while since we had that and we deserved it.

"Credit to Sporting because they came back at us in the second half but our two late goals killed the tie."
