Israeli dream team make it a double

articlemain

Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich are gearing up for the US Open in the best possible way by winning their second successive men’s doubles tournament at the Comerica Bank Challenger in Aptos, California.

The Israeli duo beat Australia’s Chris Guccione and Matt Reid 6-3, 7-6 in the final to continure an eight-game
winning streak and add to last week’s Vancouver Open title.

Ram and Erlich are the only Israelis to ever win a grand slam title having taken the Australian Open in 2008 and reached the US open semi-final in 2009.

Both Erlich, 36 and Ram, 33 have suffered serious elbow injuries in recent years with Ram only recently recovered from surgery at the end of last year. But recent results suggest the pair have put their injuries behind them.

Ram said: "We're very happy about the high level of tennis we've been playing over the past three weeks. Our aim over the past month has been to try and play as many games as possible together and recover our self-confidence ahead of the US Open. We have achieved this in the most perfect possible way."
