Israel overpowered by four-midable England

Israel’s young guns were blown away at Barnsley as England produced a stunning second-half comeback.

Mohammad Kilbat’s exquisite left-footed curling effort had given the visitors a half-time lead before Stuart Pearce’s men turned on the style.

New Arsenal signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the star of the show as he ran Israel ragged in a second-half masterclass.

After more than holding their own in the opening 45 minutes, with Manchester City midfielder Guy Assulin impressive, Israel were unable to handle the pace and power of the home side.

Former Southampton Oxlade-Chamberlain wasted little time in making an impact as he set up Hull City’s Martyn Waghorn to head England level 13 minutes after the break.

It took just three minutes for England to move into the lead as Watford’s Marvin Sordell unleashed a rasping 30-yard drive which flew past Boris Kleyman in the Israel goal.

Both Klibat and Muanas Dabbur had chances to equalise but when Oxlade-Chamberlain was fouled inside the penalty area, Nathan Delfouneso stepped up to slot home from the spot.

Henri Lansbury added a fourth in stoppage time with a powerful volley following neat link-up play with Oxlade- Chamberlain.

Israel manager Guy Luzon took heart from the result. He said: "We had a good first half and put together some great moves. In the second half we were less aggressive and made mistakes.

"The result did not reflect the abilities we showed and overall this was one of our best performances this year. We feel encouraged despite the defeat."
