Israel faces Italian test

articlemain

Israel's Under 21 team will take on five-time winners Italy in the playoffs for the Euro 2009 Under 21 Championship finals in Sweden.

They travel to Rome on October 11 with the return leg at Tel Aviv's Bloomfield Stadium on October 15.
Fourteen teams have reached the playoffs with the seven winners joining the hosts in the finals next June.
"Italy is one of the most difficult draws," said the Under 21 manager Motti Iwanir. "But it is possible to beat them."

FIFA will investigate an incident where Israel striker Ben Sahar injured his knee three minutes into last week's World Cup qualifying victory in Moldova.

The Portsmouth striker, on loan from Chelsea, collided with an exposed drainpipe on the pitch perimeter in Kishnev's Zimbro stadium and action may be taken against the Moldova FA.

A scan has showed that Sahar, 19, suffered no internal damage.
