Jack Isaacs was the hero as South Manchester grabbed a narrow victory in the Chesman League.

Isaacs, who has featured for the 3rd and 2nd XI during his first season on senior football, made his debut on a cold, windy day that saw the 1st XI line up without 10 regular first teamers.

South featured debuts for four young South talents under the age of 18, which made the victory even sweeter.

Keeper Alex Davies was immense between the sticks, with an experienced back five holding the fort, allowing the younger debutants the freedom of the opposition's half.

When the chance fell the Isaacs 60 minutes into the game, he calmly sold the centre half a dummy before slotting home from 20 yards with his weaker foot.

South withstanded the pressure to bring a brilliant three points home to Gatley.

Neil Collins, joint manager of South 1st XI, said: "This victory is up there with one of the proudest moments I've had at South overnthe last 65 years.

"We took a step up this year in terms of leagues but for these young boys to come in and influence the game is absolutely fantastic.

"Our oldest player on the pitch was Toby Levy at 26 - so it just goes to show how well these boys did in the 1st team debut.

"Combined with the experience of Toby, Tom Cantor, Dave Stewart and Alex Davies, who have played for years now, it was a memorable morning at Hough End."
