Ice-cool Manchester CC go second

articlemain

Manchester Cricket Club climbed into second place in the Greater Manchester Amateur League following a 13-run victory over Trinity CC.

Manchester were invited to bat first and got off to a slow start with Rosenblum and Tammam taking their time to build an innings.

Rosenblum however fell cheaply as did Jeffries, but Tammam held the innings together, patiently waiting for the bad balls which were dispatched to the boundary.

Useful contributions from Rabinovitz and Dan Lieberman helped the score tick along, but after 20 overs Manchester were 67-3.

Tammam kept going and reached a fine 50, including eight fours, before edging his next ball to the keeper. That brought Josh Oehley to the crease and he together with Huddy Lieberman, started to accelerate the scoring, running quick singles as well of plenty of boundaries.

Runs were now flowing freely and Oehley hit his maiden 50, including six fours and one 6, before being bowled by Llwellyn.

Lieberman finished on 25, being stumped off the last ball of the innings and Manchester finished on 221-7.

Trinity’s batting was much more resolute than the last time the teams met and they were clearly fielding a strengthened batting line-up.

Manchester struggled to take early wickets as Lowe dispatched the Manchester bowlers around the park.

However, Manchester kept plugging away and finally started to make inroads into the Trinity batting. Huddy Lieberman took the vital wicket of Lowe for 62, and a fine catch by Steve Glicher in the deep, dismissed the dangerous Kalgun.

Malik maintained the scoring rate going and hit two huge sixes off Oehley before being caught by Jeffries off the bowling of Cohen.

The last pair came to the wicket needing 20 off the last two overs, but the Manchester bowling held firm and Manchester held their nerve to run out close winners in a hard fought contest that sees them move to second in the league.

Huddy Lieberman finished with 3-48 off 10 overs and Cohen 2-42.
