Hyde Park Rovers march on

articlemain

Hyde Park cruised to a 3-1 win over Westdene 1st as they extended their lead at the top of the table in their penultimate game of the season. Oli Grant, Philip Braham and Jason Wise struck for the title chasers.

Grant put the visitors ahead when player-manager Braham threaded a pass through to him, and he rounded the goalkeeper to score.

Westdene fought and had spells of possession, and got an equaliser when Adam Herman struck a free kick from the edge of the area following a handball.

Parity did not last though, as Braham found himself on the end of a through ball from Paul Clayton to chip past the goalkeeper and put the visitors ahead at half time.

Jason Wise sealed the win in the second period after his corner was cleared straight back to him, and he fired it home. Despite Westdene’s efforts, Hyde Park were always on top of a tight contest, and Braham felt they deserved the victory.

“It was a very good result, and the scoreline reflected the game. It was close and they pressurised us well, but never had any clear cut chances and did not look like scoring.”

Hyde Park now prepare for their final game of their league campaign against Manchester Maccabi 3rd, in a crucial game which will go a long way to deciding where the title ends up at the end of the season.
