Zack Gothelf hailed the hunger and desire of his Oakhill Lions after they kept their title tilt on track with a gutsy 3-1 win over Republic of Mancunia 1st.

Despite falling behind to a Paul Basger strike, the Lions roared back with goals from Marc Maynard, Saul Shapiro and Marc Woolfe to seal another hard-fought victory.

Oakhill remain six points off leaders Haroldeans, but Gothelf remains confident of catching the Merseysiders and says his team's latest performance was their best of the season.

"The conditions were awful and we couldn't play our usual football but this was by far our best performance so far," said boss Gothelf.

"We really battled, got stuck in and in the end, we wanted it more than them.

"In recent weeks we've won games by playing some really lovely football, but because of the conditions, the ball was just getting stuck in the middle of the pitch.

"We changed things around a bit and the lads really worked their socks off, so I'm delighted with them."

Maynard's close-range header brought the Lions level after the break before 16-year-old Shapiro marked his debut with a stunning scissor kick.

Woolfe added a third after latching on to Harry Roache's through ball and Gothelf is now eyeing up Sunday's clash with South Manchester Sports Club 2nd.

League leaders Haroldeans got back to winning ways with a convincing 6-2 win over South Manchester SC 2nd.

Adam Boyars scored twice, while Bradley Alis, Ali Goldsmith, Josh Roberts and Robert Karp were also on target.

Dan Davidson's stunning hat-trick fired Leeds to their first victory of the season as Alex Ullmann's men defeated Broughton 6-4 in a pulsating contest.

Leeds had taken just one point from their previous nine games before facing Broughton, but Ullmann says he always believed they would get to grips with the MJSL.

"We know we have a formula to win games," he said. "But with a squad engineered to introduce younger members to senior football, it rests solely on match experience to build confidence.

"Each player contributes to the game and we don't have a single player who is not capable of that one piece of good play, which leads to a goal, or a great defensive move.

"This won't be the only three points that we win."

Rafi Kaye's brace and Josh Isaac's strike wrapped up the win.

David Herman, Paul Clayton, Ben Roback, Oli Grant and Jay Rosenthal were all on target as Hyde Park defeated Crumpsall 6-2.

Sporting claimed a 4-1 win over Republic of Mancunia 2nd.

Adam Herman, Moishe Hasid, Aaron Englander and Alex Woolf scored the goals. Andrew Shaffer scored from the penalty spot for Republic.
