Hemed key to Mallorca title push

articlemain

Israel striker Tomer Hemed continued his excellent early season form by guiding Real Mallorca to the lofty heights of second in La Liga, just behind Barcelona.

Hemed has made an impressive start to the season with four goals. He currently lies third in the goal-scoring charts, behind Barca’s Lionel Messi and Atletico Madrid’s Falcao.

He set up the opening goal for Victor Casseus in Mallorca’s 2-0 win over Valencia last weekend.

Hemed said: "I'm not competing with Messi who is in a different league to me. Let’s be modest and not set unrealistic goals. I’d settle for second place at the end of the season."

Hemed, 25, was playing for Maccabi Nazareth in season 2009/10 and caught the eye of Mallorca scouts the following season, when he scored 15 goals and helped Maccabi Haifa to the Ligat Ha’Al title.

He registered 12 times in his first year in Spain last season.
