Haroldeans on target for Oakhill

articlemain

A last-minute winner from Josh Richards saw Haroldeans defeat Oakhill 3-2 in a pulsating clash in the Joan Collins Premier Division.

Paul Harris and Simon Gould were also on target for the Merseysiders with Oakhill registering through Ben Horne and Josh Daniels.

Haroldeans manager Ivan Gee was relieved with the win. “I think it was (deserved), particularly as we were camped in their half in the last part of the game, so when we scored in the last minute it was probably a deserved victory.”

Oakhill were always in a close contest and they took the lead early on as Horne latched onto a long throw in to flick a shot over the advancing goalkeeper.

Haroldeans did not take long to level things as Gould struck from just inside the area after a good passing move through the centre of the field. They were in front at the break as Stephen Rubin’s short free kick was fired home from 30 yards by Harris.

Oakhill continued to press and have chances, and just a few minutes had gone in the second half when Daniels equalised with a superb effort from 25 yards following a swift counter attack.

Haroldeans started to exert their authority as the game wore on and they took control of the game in the latter stages. Their pressure eventually told in the last minute when Danny Burman flicked on a corner and Roberts fired home.

Despite the defeat, Oakhill boss Daniel Berkley was encouraged by the performance of his team.

“I’m very pleased with the way my boys played. They battled hard and defended well and were a bit unlucky to lose to a soft goal in last minute of game.”
